"Welcome to a modern astrophysical safari - the goal is to hunt for distant dust clouds illuminated by some of the most spectacular events in the universe: supernovae. In the region of our galaxy visible from the Sun, we have seen five supernovae go off in the last 2000 years - the most recent having been in 1604. None of these have had their outburst light studied with modern astronomical instrumentation. The first spectrum from Cas A - a recent supernova whose outburst was not seen - has only recently been published. There is much to learn. Finding the light echoes is the first step. Since they change position on the sky rapidly and there is a large region over which they might be found, an effort to organize search activity is most welcome. Thanks to Donovan Buck for setting up this site!

These are exciting times - I look forward to following your progress and working with you to unravel even more supernova mysteries!"
